Jan. 5--A special facility for the disposal of electrical and electronic waste is planned for Thailand to help local industries comply with a strict new European directive that takes effect this year.
The Industrial Works Department (IWD) and the Customs Department will co-operate to assist interested foreign investors establish a factory to deal with large volumes of toxic waste, said Issara Shoatburakarn, the IWD director-general.
The EU directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) requires manufacturers, distributors and importers to clean up waste by December 2006.
