Jan. 5--More than 50 million short messages (SMS) and almost a million multimedia messages (MMS) were sent over a two-day period during the new year holidays across Thailand.

Leading mobile phone operator Advanced Info Service (AIS) reported a record 640,000 MMS and 29 million SMS being sent from its network from Dec 31 through Jan 1.

The heavy MMS and SMS traffic represented a 293 percent and 46 percent increase respectively from the same period of the previous new year period.

Last year, 20 million SMS and 160,000 MMS were sent out.

Second-place DTAC reported 358,000 MMS and 21 million SMS being sent out from its network on Dec ...
