Jan. 5--The Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister, Somkid Jatusripitak, has called for an urgent meeting with sugar manufacturers and traders, taking place today, over a sugar shortage and prices.
The meeting is set to discuss short supplies in the market and look at increasing the retail price of sugar, which is currently capped, as the private sector has requested.
Mr Somkid said more information was needed before a decision was made and discussions would have to take place between the Commerce Ministry and the Industry Ministry, which is currently looking at restructuring the sugar industry.
