Byline: JAMES DETAR
The top two computer chipmakers are taking their fight right into your living room.
The punching will begin this week at the big, annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. There, No. 1 chipmaker Intel will reveal more details about Viiv, its software and chip platform designed for living room PCs hooked up, perhaps, to TV sets.
It unveiled Viiv in August.
No. 2 Advanced Micro Devices will counter on Wednesday, when it take the wraps off its reply, a platform it calls "AMD Live."
The matchup promises to be one of the biggest in tech in 2006.
Once again, the rivals are tackling the same market with radically different approaches. Intel will offer the whole enchilada for entertainment PCs, while AMD will offer a piece and work with partners.
