Hopes fading for trapped miners

Rescue crews in West Virginia scrapped their cautious approach to free 13 trapped coal miners after efforts to contact the men went unanswered and air samples showed air in the shaft was highly contaminated. Rescuers inserted a camera in the mine to look for signs of life, but found none. An explosion early Monday trapped the miners in a shaft nearly 2 miles long and 250 feet below ground.
