Tiny biosensor may catch cancer

The EU has given $14 mil to international researchers developing a tiny biosensor designed to provide early detection of cancer. The researchers manufactured silicon-based sensors less than one-tenth of a millimeter in diameter and coated them with special patterns of DNA or proteins that cause the cancer-specific markers to bind to its surface. In theory, the sensors could detect and help identify even a single molecule.
