Chicago Merc sees record trades
The No. 1 futures exchange said average daily trading volume rose 32% in December compared with last year to 3.8 mil contracts. For the year, volume at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange rose 35.4% to 1.09 bil, the 6th straight yearly gain and the first time it's topped 1 bil. At the rival Chicago Board of Trade, daily derivatives trading volume fell 5.7% to 1.98 mil contracts. For the year, CBOT volume rose 12.4% to 675 mil, its 4th straight annual record. The Chicago Merc fell 1% while CBOT fell 2%.
