Jan. 4--Widespread flooding and disruptions to power supplies will likely save a Chinese telecom giant from 90 million baht in daily fines for failing to meet its base station project deadline.
Huawei Technologies had been given until Jan 26 to finish 800 Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) base stations, but so far has finished only 400, according to an executive of CAT Telecom.
CAT awarded the contract to Huawei to construct a total of 1,600 CDMA base stations as part of the state enterprise's plan to expand its Hutch mobile service beyond Bangkok and 25 central provinces.
