Jan. 3--Despite recent heavy rains and flooding in the South, prospects for the rubber industry remain bright for 2006, boosted by expected growing demand both in the domestic and export markets.
Luckchai Kitipol, the president of the Thai Rubber Association, said recent bad weather resulted in a sharp drop of rubber output and dampened trading activity, with the output estimated to drop by 40,000 to 50,000 tonnes in December.
However, Mr Luckchai is optimistic that higher production in January and February will offset December's drop.
