Nezavisimaya Gazeta's experts are far from optimistic in their assessments of the events of 2005. The year of 2005 is coming to an end. It is time to sum up the results of the past year. The Moscow City Duma election was the main event. This was the first time the city's parliamentary election was based on party tickets. The parties engaged in genuine and highly intense political competition instead of trying to strike bargains with one another.
