Syrian journalist and writer Ahmad al-Haj Ali, in Damascus, discussed the statements made by former Syrian Vice-President Abd-al-Halim Khaddam about the Syrian leadership in a four-minute live telephone interview with Qatari Al-Jazeera satellite TV at 0510 gmt on 31 December.

Asked to give his opinion about Khaddam's statements, Ali says: "Definitely, this interview was a real shock. This is one of the rare cases when the word shock can be used because many situations have introductions or justifications.
