Dec. 29--Only two days are left to sign up for new Medicare prescription drug benefits for the elderly and disabled, if those benefits are to start with 2006.
But many senior citizens are still confused about the exact nature of the plan addition, called Medicare Part D: where and how to sign up, and whether it will do any good, according to Auston McKay, a local representative for Community Care Rx, one of the 50 or so Medicare-approved plans to offer the government-subsidized prescription drug benefit.
Many do not understand that they need to sign up through private companies for the government program, or why it's important to sign up as soon as possible, he said.
And others aren't sure they will come out ahead in the complex calculations of premiums, deductibles and benefits, McKay said.
