Following an in-depth review of the policies and practices currently in place at the GIA Gem Trade Laboratory, initiated by a law suit filed in the spring of 2005 by Max Pincione, which named GIA as one of four defendants, the organization has announced the resignation of Thomas C. Yonelunas as lab director, and the appointment of Thomas M. Moses in his place. A GIA press release noted that, while he was not implicated in any violations of GIA's professional ethics and conduct, Yonelunas tendered his resignation, effective December 31, 2005, to ensure a smooth transition of leadership. The contracts of four other lab employees were terminated by the organization.
