Gordon to Dakar again
Robby Gordon completed shakedown tests last week in California of the Hummer H3 he will drive in the Dakar rally, his second time in the African desert.
Gordon's H3 will have a carbon fiber body and a 427-cid LS1 V8, built by Katech Engineering, a Detroit-area firm. The engine is similar to those in the Le Mans Corvettes.
This year's Dakar starts New Year's Eve in Lisbon, Portugal, and covers 16 stages in two weeks, running 6500 miles to the Atlantic coastal city of Dakar, Senegal, on Jan. 15. Among the 508 teams from all over the world are 10 from America, three in the four-wheel category and seven in motorcycles. See www.dakar.com for more.
