How many more years can this go on? Those Audi R8s have got to wear out eventually, right? Right?
Well, yes, but Audi's new R10 prototype is on the way (see Competition, page 65). More bad news for the competition even as the two-Audi effort of Champion Racing captured the American Le Mans Series season.
JJ Lehto and Marco Werner teamed up to take three of the first four races (the 12 Hours of Sebring, Road Atlanta and Lime Rock). With Tom Kristensen aboard for the long-distance races, they also won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the Florida-based, Dave Maraj-owned operation. Then teammates Frank Biela and Emanuele Pirro took over, winning at Sears Point, Portland, Road America and Petit Le Mans to earn the season championship.
