NEW YORK -- George Horowitz, chairman and CEO of Everlast Worldwide Inc., died Nov. 28 after battling kidney cancer. He was 55 years old.

Horowitz, born in Brooklyn, N.Y., founded the Active Apparel Group Inc., which merged with Everlast in 2000. Prior to his three decades of work in the sporting goods industries, Horowitz was an educator in the New York City high schools.
