Love and marriage THERE is a certain irony in the fact that SA is now to become one of only five countries in the world to recognise gay marriage. We may have one of the world's most advanced constitutions but this is still, in many ways, a deeply conservative society. There will be many South Africans who will be uncomfortable with the idea of gay marriage, for religious or cultural reasons. The Constitutional Court has now ensured that gay people will be able to be married in the eyes of the law, if that's what they want. But from legal acceptance to social acceptance is still a long leap.
