Dec. 8--Rice exporters have urged the government to set export prices and come up with a clearer policy on marketing abroad if it really wants to curb exporters from selling too cheaply.
Local traders are concerned and desperately need government directives on how they should deal with the current global price slump, according to Vichai Sriprasert, president of the Rice Exporters Association.
"The government should set rice export prices and speak out clearly about whether it wants exporters to keep rice stockpiles or sell it to overseas markets at a low price to drain the existing supply in order to ease stockpiling ...
