Dec. 7--Egat Plc has decided to go ahead with plans to develop a massive hydroelectric dam on the Salween River to increase Thailand's electricity supply at low production costs.
The project has been on hold for more than a decade following strong opposition about the project's environmental impact and Burma's human rights record.
Egat chief executive Kraisri Karnasuta said Egat would sign the agreement on Friday with Burmese counterpart, the Electricity Authority, to build the first dam at Hatgui, near Mae Sot on Burmese border.
