Dec. 7--Egg consumption will rise in Thailand next year regardless of the bird flu, according to the Association of Hen-Egg Farmers, Traders and Exporters.
In 2006, president Wichai Taechawattananan said he expected 140-145 eggs per person to be sold, a slight increase from 135-140 this year.
Production would continue to grow to around 9,000 to 9,200 million eggs next year, compared with 8,700 to 8,800 million in 2005, he said.
Besides growing local consumption, egg exports are likely to expand by 10 percent next year to 12 million, worth about 220 million baht. The main markets will continue to be Hong Kong, ...
