THE HEART OF GOVERNMENT
With our annual pilgrimage to Olympia upon us, it's time to reflect on the opportunities and challenges that currently face the profession.
The Terrorism Bill now before Parliament is an undoubted threat to many information professionals, as our report on page 8 reveals.
IWR endorses the steps being taken by the AUT, Cilip, Biall and many other professional bodies to raise concerns with the government over the possible unexpected consequences of this legislation, no matter how well-intentioned it is.
Meanwhile, the government's newly announced Transformational Strategy, the subject of our front cover lead, also poses significant civil liberties implications, and could mean major changes for information professionals in the civil service.
There is a larger public debate to be had about government departments sharing data, and compiling a vast integrated network of intelligence about our lives.
