Cable companies raising prices
The biggest deliverer, Comcast, announced a 6% hike for its most popular cable package. Time Warner is upping its prices 1.9%-3.1%. Cablevision Systems will increase its rates by 2.3%. Cable rates rose 5.4% in '03, down from a 7.8% increase in '02, the FCC said. Rate hikes were smaller in areas with the highest competition, climbing 3.6%.
** Tribune's Nov. revenue fell 3.9% to $437 mil. Hurricane Wilma hurt publishing revenue, which was down 2.7% to $330 mil, and ad sales fell 2.4% to $263 mil. Shares fell 1% to 31.39.
