1Employers hired 215,000 workers in Nov., in line with forecasts. It's the latest in a series of reports showing the economy weathered the Gulf Coast hurricanes well. Stocks Erase Losses; Chips Rise
2The S&P 500 and the small-cap S&P 600 closed flat. The Nasdaq bounced off its lows to end up 0.3%. The Dow fell 0.3%. Volume cooled. The Philly semi index rose 0.7% to a fresh 52-week high. Natgas Soars 7%; Oil Also Rises
3Jan. natgas rose 90.4 cents to $13.931 per mil Btu as forecasts for colder weather in the next 10 days upped views on demand and sparked short covering. Natgas has recouped 79% of its 7-week retreat to $10.88. The buying spree spread to the oil pit, where crude rose 85 cents to $59.32 a barrel. That's $2.82 gained in the last 3 sessions.
