Dec. 2--Shares of hire purchase company Krungthai Car Rent and Lease posted a strong debut on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, gaining 12 percent from its initial public offering price of 4.4 baht.

The stock opened the day at 4.7 baht, and rose to as high as 4.98 baht before closing at 4.94 on trade worth 672.4 million baht.

Gains came even as the broad SET index continued its week-long decline, ending at 660.95 points, down 6.80, on trade worth 11.8 billion baht.
