Volume up on futures exchanges
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange notched 4.1 mil contracts a day in Nov., 27% more than Nov. '04. Of that, Globex, its electronic trading market, saw trades rise 32% to 2.9 mil contracts a day, or 71% of CME's total. That's up from 68% a year ago. Also, the Chicago Board of Trade recorded 2.9 mil contracts a day, a 22% gain from a year ago. Chicago Merc rose 4% to 368.50, while CBOT fell 1% to 95.76.
** Bank of America's checking account clients have been given access to its online trading brokerage, Banc of America Investment Services. Fees will be $5-$10 a trade, depending on the type of account. That's a price cut from its previous fee of $19.95.

Gulf-area appliance chain excels
Conn's, with 45 stores in Texas and 5 in Louisiana, posted 38 cents a share in its Q3, 41% more than a year ago and 4 cents more than expected, as residents shelled out to replace appliances lost to Katrina and Rita.
