Boeing lands Hong Kong order
Cathay Pacific Airways will buy or lease up to 36 Boeing aircraft, a key win for the U.S. plane maker over rival Airbus. The airline said it would buy 12 long-range Boeing 777-300ERs, with a book value of $3 bil, although plane makers often discount. Cathay Pacific will also lease 4 planes and got rights to buy 20 more 777-300s. Boeing's '05 orders may beat Airbus for the first time since '00. Shares rose 2% to 69.67.
** Delta Air Lines, the U.S.' No. 3 airline, said it lost a stomach-churning $1.14 bil, or $6.04 a share, Sept. 15 to Oct. 31, the first six weeks of its bankruptcy case. Delta reported a Q3 loss of $1.13 bil in the quarter ended Sept. 30. Delta couldn't say how much of today's report was fresh losses, or how much was included in the quarterly report.
