Motherhood has taught me many things, but one stands out: being in charge and being in control are two totally different things. This lesson was reinforced just this past Sunday when I saw that while I may be in charge of getting my kids to church on time, I cannot control (God bless you if you can) whether my son is going to go along cheerfully--as he does most days--or throw one giant fit in the parking lot in front of everyone because we won't let him bring his balloon inside--as he did the other day. And while I may be in charge of establishing rules like "no nursing during church," there's little I can do to stop my rebel baby girl from giving my shirt a revealing lift while we're singing away.
But being fairly well grounded in this didn't ease the shock I received at work a few months ago when I learned that this issue of CHRISTIAN PARENTING TODAY would be its last. Suddenly I got a wake-up call that while I may be in charge of many things here--seeing that the articles we run connect with you, deciding if a sentence really warrants an exclamation point, and making sure we meet deadlines--I can't control the million other factors that determine whether a magazine survives.
But while I may not be in control, I'm confident that the One who is knows what he's doing. Still, I am sad that this magazine won't be published any longer. ...
