IT IS A PITY THAT SRS (SECOND-ary restraint system) airbags are not yet required by law in all passenger vehicles sold in the Philippines. To date, airbags have saved over 14,200 human lives in the United States and in Germany since 1990, the airbag has prevented over 2,500 fatal injuries.

The manager of vehicle safety and chair of the Australian New Car Accident Protection steering committee, who has been involved in road safety since 1980, was quoted by the Herald Sun last Friday as saying that airbags are one of the three best things he has seen.
