While announcing terminal expansion and on-dock rail plans at Seattle, carrier is abandoning 'superport' idea.

American President Lines announced expansion and on-dock rail plans for its Seattle marine terminal, but the Oakland-based carrier stressed that it intends to remain active at all three major West Coast load centers.

Negotiations involving APL's parent company, American President Cos., the Port of Seattle and the International Longshoremen's & Warehousemen's Union are expected to produce agreements early this year that would give the green light to enlarge Seattle's Terminal 5 to at least 160 acres from its current 83 acres by 1996.

APL is asking the port for an option on an additional 30 acres.
