I was extremely disappointed by the misinformation and patronizing title in Carolina Gonzalez's article, "Voring by Moxie" [September/October 2005].
Ms. Gonzalez is simply wrong about the legislative process and the non-citizen voting legislation that has been introduced. Intro. 628 has nine active co-sponsors, not the one that Ms. Gonzalez cited, and significantly more supporters in Council and city government. Hearings on Intro. 628 are scheduled to be held before October of 2005.
Despite Ms. Gonzalez's implication that the bill "has not even been named," bills are never officially named. Titles like "pay to pray" are created by a bill's sponsor to make them easy to remember. When it passes, Intro. 628 will be no less binding because its organizers focused on substance rather than gimmicks.
