Hard work and good reputation are the fuels for service station business.

Nov. 27--There were days when Jack Pontoriero was 9 and 10 years old that he spent pumping gasoline at his father's Dover Township service station, Fred's Texaco. And summers spent not lolling on the beach or running across the baseball diamond, but filling up and fixing the cars rolling in and out of the station.

"I was the only kid who, when summer vacation ended, I was happy," Pontoriero said.

But somewhere along the way, oil must have gotten in his blood, because Pontoriero and his sister, Maria Pontoriero, own Holiday Service Center and the Liberty gas station on Route 37 in Dover Township.

Jack Pontoriero said he is proud to carry on his father's trade -- so proud that he works up to 10 hours a day and as many as seven days a week. But he's been careful to not follow too closely in his father's footsteps. …
