Kibaki's challenge THUMBS up to the Kenyan voters for showing electoral maturity in telling their president, Mwai Kibaki, that the nature of the country's leadership should not be taken lightly. In a landmark referendum this week, voters rejected a proposed new constitution which increased the powers of the president. In doing so, Kenyans sent a clear message to Kibaki that their leader should be accountable to the people and state institutions, notably parliament, and not an imperial president.
