Ports and logistics operator Asian Terminals, Inc. (ATI) has failed to secure the approval of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) to extend its present contract to operate Manila's South Harbor for another 25 years.

ATI has the authority to operate the pier until 2013.

After that, PPA will either bid out harbor operations or privatize the facility.

PPA assistant general manager Raul Santos said the government did not approve ATI's proposal to extend its contract since doing so will let ATI spread the balance of its committed $300-million development fund for South …
