In Europe consumption of recycled PET in 2003 reached 361,000 tonnes made up of 254,000 tonnes fibre, 28,000 tonnes strips, 27,000 tonnes sheets. 40,000 tonnes containers, 6000 tonnes moulded items, 6000 tonnes other. Increase in consumption was estimated at 20% in 2004 in spite of significant export to the Far East of material for recycling. The most recent recycling lines have installed capacity of 20,000 tonnes which requires each year 26,000 tonnes of waste PET bottles.
