There is little of the mystical in the day-to-day role of information professionals. Yet when they have to commit themselves to paper for one of the most important management documents, there is an uncomfortable amount of crystal-ball gazing involved.

Academic libraries' five-year strategies make fascinating reading. Some are a series of predictions for a futuristic world facing the information professional.
