Sky's not the limit
Raging demand for the Pontiac Solstice roadster, along with anticipated clamor for its General Motors sibling Saturn Sky due in mid-2006, means more work for GM's Wilmington, Delaware, plant. The plant will add a third shift in January, boosting annual production by about 35 percent, to 30,000 to 35,000 vehicles per year. The plant will also begin building the export-only Opel Speedster roadster in late 2006.
Tennessee two-step?
Nissan will move its North American headquarters from Southern California to Tennessee, according to news reports indicating an announcement is due any day. Earlier this year the company conducted a study of the benefits of moving its headquarters and some 1300 Nissan employees to Smyrna, Tennessee, where Nissan operates a production plant (News, Sept. 26). The latest reports indicate the company will set up its operations in the Nashville area.
