Five major incidents, including the death of a participant, marred the culmination of the 2005 Goodguys/Vintage Racing Association's season Oct. 29-30 in Bakersfield, California.

Roy Moore, 76, of Santa Paula, California, died after crashing his C/Gas car at Famoso Raceway in the Seventh Fuel and Gas Finals.

In the final round of Junior Fuel competition, J.D. Zink went into a power wheelstand at the start; his dragster flipped backward, then barrel-rolled several times. Zink was cut from his car and taken to Kern Medical Center in Bakersfield for observation.

Mike Boyd escaped serious injury earlier in the day when his Winged Express AA/Fuel Altered dragster crashed into the retaining wall during an exhibition run. The car lost the left-front wheel and tie rod midway down the track, sending it into the wall. The car barrel-rolled twice before coming to a stop.
