Volkswagen's new North American boss had been on the job about 11 minutes when we sat down with him at the Specialty Equipment Market Association show. Behind him on VW's first-ever stand at the Las Vegas show were the German company's Concept R vehicles, including the Jetta R GT (News, Nov. 7).
AW: Tell us about the process that led to the SEMA concepts.
Hallmark: This project was the result of a determined look at customer needs in the U.S. It's been under way for about 18 months. It is one theme that we want to develop. I think it shows that we recognize the importance of individualization.
