Nov. 17--Pennsylvania hospitals Wednesday attacked the state agency that reports on hospital quality, demanding a public review of some of the agency's methods.
The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania Healthcare Cost Containment Council also continued their dispute over how well hospitals are fulfilling a legal obligation to report infections to the council.
The council, known as PHC4, said Wednesday that 11,668 infections reported by the hospitals last year resulted in more than $1 billion in extra charges to Medicare and $372 million to Medicaid.
