Nov. 15--A packed courtroom greeted Potter County commissioners Monday as about 30 senior citizens called on commissioners to freeze taxes for seniors and disabled residents.
Retiree Bill Sumerford and Alan Abraham, a representative of the Texas Silver-Haired Legislature, came before commissioners Monday to make their case for a tax freeze.
Sumerford noted that Potter County residents, Randall County voters and voters across Texas approved Proposition 13, a constitutional amendment passed in 2003. The amendment grants some taxing entities the power to freeze tax rates for disabled residents and citizens 65 or older.
