Nov. 11--WakeMed's medical empire is expanding.
Wake County's largest hospital system on Thursday said it has agreed to manage Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn, building on WakeMed's current ties to the Harnett County hospital.
In August, WakeMed said it would partner with the smaller hospital to create Harnett Health System. It would include Betsy Johnson and a new 50-bed hospital in Lillington, both of which WakeMed would manage.
Betsy Johnson's leaders figured, 'Why wait?' said Ray Weeks, chairman of the hospital's board of trustees.
