2 tech firms enjoy strong debuts

Computer memory chip maker Saifun Semiconductors soared 50% to 35.30 on its first day of trading. Investors appeared confident that it will quickly gain share in the nearly $20 bil flash-memory market. Meanwhile, shares of iRobot, the world's largest maker of mobile robots for the consumer market, rose 11% to 26.70 in its debut.

** Two IPOs got mixed receptions, with pharmaceutical CombinatoRx rising 12% to 7.85 and oil and gas pipeline operator Boardwalk Pipeline Partners slipping 3% to 18.95.
