Nov. 8--In a history-making decision Monday night, the San Mateo City Council voted unanimously to let developers demolish Bay Meadows racetrack, the oldest major track in California and a Bay Area fixture for generations of racing fans.
In its place, developers plan a community of up to 1,500 condominiums, 1.2 million square feet of offices, plus retail and parkland, located next to a Caltrain Baby Bullet train station.
