Nov. 5--Telecom giant Shin Corp will invest 40 billion baht in third-generation mobile phone infrastructure next year in anticipation of stronger demand for high-speed wireless services.

Chief executive officer Boonklee Plangsiri said the company could fully finance its investment plans without the need to bring in new partners.

He denied local media reports earlier this week that suggested that China Telecom was interested in taking a stake in Advanced Info Service, the country's cellular market leader and the flagship of the Shin Group.

"We have abundant capital and strong financial fundamentals. We can finance our investments in 3G on our own without any need for support from foreign partners," Mr Boonklee said.
