Nov. 3--In an attempt to salvage tourism in the southernmost provinces, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is holding a two-week International Lantern Exhibition in Songkhla's Hat Yai district.

Suwanchai Ritthirak, executive director of TAT's events department, hopes to attract more visitors to the southernmost provinces where the number of tourists has fallen sharply due to the escalating violence.

Hat Yai, a renowned tourism destination in the deep South, has been popular among Malaysian and Singaporean tourists.
