Foundation Coal swings to profit
The coal miner posted 46 cents a share profit for Q3, reversing a year-ago loss of 72 cents and walloping views by 19 cents. Shipments rose 11% while the average price per ton shot up 20%, boosting revenue 33.5% to $341.3 mil. Foundation Coal Holdings boosted its '05 outlook from $1.30-1.50 to $1.55-1.65, above views of $1.46. Shares rose 2.5% to 37.60.
** Canadian Natural Resources netted $128 mil in Q3, 55% more than a year ago ex items. It also sketched out a $17 bil plan to develop its oil sands and heavy crude reserves. Shares rose 9% to 46.01.
** Devon Energy's Q3 profit beat views by 7 cents and topped the year ago by 81.6% with $1.87 a share ex items. Revenue rose 19% to $2.7 bil, helped by higher energy prices. The oil & gas ...
