Sprint, cable firms in bundle pact
Four cable TV providers will deliver phone, video, Internet and wireless services jointly with Sprint Nextel. Comcast, Cox Communications, Time Warner and Advance/Newhouse Communications will invest a combined $100 mil. The quadruple-play service will be co-branded by Sprint and a customer's local cable company and may hurt Baby Bells. Sprint rose 3.5% to 24.73. Comcast rose 2.5% to 28.80.
Deutsche Telekom will slash jobs
Europe's No. 1 phone company will cut 32,000 jobs in Germany over the next 3 years. Most of the cuts will come from its landline business, which employs 110,000. But 7,000 will be cut from its staff-agency unit. Deutsche Telekom also will add 6,000 jobs at new businesses. Shares rose 3.5% to 18.03.
