Nov. 2--Inflation in October rose to 6.2 percent from a year earlier, slightly less than expected but the highest in seven years, due mainly to rising oil and electricity prices, according to the Commerce Ministry.
Fuel prices were 37.1 percent higher than in October last year, said Karun Kittisataporn, the ministry's permanent secretary.
The October inflation rate was the highest since September 1998 when it hit 7.0 percent as the then financial crisis deepened.
The average annual inflation rate for the first 10 months of this year was 4.3 percent, while on a month-on-month basis, inflation in October edged up 0.3 percent.
