NYSE stocks rallied Monday on heavier volume. The S&P 500 rose 0.7% while the Dow added 0.4%. The small-cap S&P 600 led with a 1.7% romp.
Financial stocks were strong.
Insurance brokerage Brown & Brown made an intraday all-time high before closing at 54.33, up 1.28. Volume was more than 2 1/2 times bigger than average. The stock broke out Aug. 31 from a double bottom in which the first bottom was lower than the second.
*Zenith National Insurance rose 1.44 to 45.02, closing at its session high. The stock has found support at its 50-day moving average as it builds a base.
