The Southern Universities Purchasing Consortium (SUPC) has blazed a trail in e-book procurement. It has appointed ProQuest to supply e-books in a contract awarded through a competitive tendering process that also saw ebrary awarded a contract to supply its DCP platform for general e-books.

SUPC is the UK's largest university purchasing consortium and represents 46 higher education members and 28 further education members.

The agreement with Proquest for the Safari Tech Books Online resource ensures that full-text, online books from publishers such as O'Reilly and the Pearson Technology Group will be delivered to SUPC members. The Safari model enables libraries to purchase slots rather than specific titles, and allows swapping of books every 30 days.
